Cougars fall to Carmel 64 to 60

The Cougars got off to a brilliant start, executing strongly in the first half taking a 29-22 lead into the break.  Carmel's JT Byrne was contained to 6 points on 2 of 5 shooting and HMB sizzled, making 12 of its first 22 shots committing only 3 turnovers in the half.  This time, the field goal accuracy held up in the second half (11 for 22), but the defensive intensity fell off.  The Cougars gave up thirty seven 2nd half shots to the Padres, many of which led to 2nd and 3rd chance baskets and committed ten 2nd half turnovers.  Byrne responded with 16 second half points and finished with a game high 22 points on 9 of 16 shooting.  He was complimented by Carmel's Joe Garella who made four treys and was 4 of 5 from the line in the 4th quarter to score 20.  Leading the way for the Cougars was Mykola Ediger, whose stat line was 19 points on 7 of 15 from the field, 2 rebounds, 5 blocks,  and 6 assists.  Other Cougars in double digits were Ben McKnight with 14 and Sean Kennedy with 10.   The Cougars are home again Saturday at Half Moon Bay High School with a tip off against Capuchino at 7:00pm.
