Boys JV Basketball falls to Westmoor 36 - 30 in overtime

The JV Cougars had to play overtime to settle things with Westmoor, and unfortunately came up a bit short, 36-30. The entire game had a frenetic feel with both squads playing hard. The 1st quarter started with a lot of action and back and forth but without a lot of made buckets ending with the HMB boys down 10-3.

After a Westmoor run in the 2nd quarter, Brayden Campbell hit a much needed 3 pointer, Noah Hill lured Westmoor into a charge, and Kris Reyes had a breakaway layup to switch the momentum toward HMB.Late in the 2nd, the Cougars fought back with strong team defense and good rebounding from Hill, Luke Longaker, and Owen Wooliever to close the gap at half down 16-12.

HMB fell back in the 3rd, but turned up the defensive effort in the 4th quarter limiting Westmoor to just 2 points. The Cougars got key scores down the stretch including a three from Zeke Syme and an equalizer to tie the game at 30-30 on a Wooliever floater out of a double team. Neither team could close it out in regulation (with Hill emphatically rejecting a late Westmoor attempt) and in overtime Westmoor made a banked 3 and HMB missed shots from the charity stripe to eventually fall short in the extra period.

Overall, the Cougars continued great team defense and had 7 scorers led by Reyes with 8 points. HMB carries a 2-1 record into its next game Tuesday at El Camino.
