The first round of the P.A.L. Tournament featured a match up typically found in the semi's or finals and every bit worthy of close battles between the two schools in recent years. The Cougars came out strong defensively, holding the Bears to 4 of 12 shooting in the first quarter in gaining a 4 point advantage which was extended to 6 by the half. Impressively, this was without the services of Ethan Menzies who missed most of the first half tending to an injury. M-A owned the boards throughout the contest and used this advantage to fight back to a tie at the end of three and the lead with 24 seconds left in the game. But HMB regained the lead as Sam Treanor converted a 1 and 1 with 12.2 seconds remaining and its defense forced a M-A turnover on its next possession. Two additional free throws added the final margin of victory. Treanor led all scorers with 23 points and 6 steals. Logan Faberowski led the Bears with 11 points. HMB returns to action in the P.A.L. semi-finals Friday at 4:30 pm at the Event Center.
