Half Moon Bay fell to Palo Alto 62-45 in the first round of the Burlingame tournament. It was a back and forth first quarter that ended with a buzzer beater to put them ahead 17-14. The second quarter was dominated by Palo Alto. The Vikings hot shooting combined with Half Moon Bays cold streak and Ethan Menzies in foul trouble led to a 24-2 quarter that proved too big of a hole for Half Moon Bay to come back from. The cougars fought hard in the second half and were led by Sam Treanor who was excellent all night and led all scorers with 29 points. Ethan Menzies added 13. Palo Alto’s bench out scored the cougars 16-0 and they showed why they are ranked #4 in the Bay Area
Half Moon Bay beat Burlingame 61-53 in the second round of the Burlingame Lions Club Basketball Tournament to move on to the Consolation Championship at 5pm Friday. The Cougars started out slowly against the 3 point shooting Panthers evening out the score at 19 at the end of the first quarter on a Michael Hourani buzzer beating 3 pointer. By half, HMB was down by one. The Cougars found their form in the second half. Ethan Menzies led the way for the Cougars with 27 on 10 for 18 shooting and 7 for 9 from the line. Sam Treanor added 12 and Patrick Hann finished with 8 for HMB. Seventy percent of Burlingame's field goal attempts on the evening were from beyond the arc.
HMB defeated Stuart Hall 62-49 to finish the Burlingame tournament 2-1, win the consolation championship and improve their overall record to 4-2. The cougars had a sloppy start with 3 quick turnovers to start the game and were down 16-13 after one period. HMB took care of the ball and turned up the defense in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 33-23 lead. The cougars bench had to step up as Sam Treanor missed a lot of the second half with injury and everyone who came off the bench gave great minutes. Danny Mack hit a huge 3 late in the 4th quarter to seal the win and finished with 15 huge points. Ethan Menzies led the cougars with 21. Next up the cougars have a triple header at home on Tuesday December 12th at CUSD event center.
