Cougars Finish 2014 with an 11-0 pre-season record

For the first time in my 5 year coaching tenure at HMBHS, the Cougars have completed the pre-season with an unblemished record after last night's win @ Menlo-Atherton HS finishing 2014 with an 11-0 record.

It was a hard fought battle for the second meeting of the year between the Bears and the Cougars. The Cougars were up 14-4 after the 1st quarter then extended the lead to 18-4 before a 7-0 run by the Bears closed the gap to 18-11 to close the first half scoring.

The 2 teams played almost even for the 3rd quarter with the Cougars taking a 28-20 lead into the final frame. The Cougars were finally able to extend the lead in the 4th period behind two 3-pointers by Junior Jake Salinero and put away the feisty Bears with a final score of 40-26.

The game was very low scoring due to both teams tough hard-nosed defenses and sloppy offensive play.

Both teams now begin league play with the Bears taking on Mills Wednesday @ home in a big league opener. The Cougars start league play Wednesday as well playing on the road against the much-improved Jefferson Indians. That game will be played Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Arena. It marks the 3rd year in a row the Cougars have been able to play one league game at the home of the Golden State Warriors.

The week concludes with the first home quad game of the year on Friday against the South City Warriors @ 7:45pm.
