The Varsity Boys Basketball team continued their magical season by improving to 18-0 by defeating arch-rival Terra Nova Friday night before a packed house. Special thanks to all the members of the 6th man crew, who quite literally rocked the gym with their great spirit and loud cheers. I would say in my 5 years as the Head Coach, that was by far the best performance ever by the 6th man crew. The cheering was incredibly loud and our fans simply took over the gym, especially after the throwdown dunks by Austin Hilton and Case DuFrane. Thanks to the leadership of that group, led by Nicky Pyle, Mark Myren, Toby Leonardos, James Cartwright and Brandon Inglis and I am sure I am leaving out many others. Thanks to all the members of the Varsity Girls team that stayed and cheered on the boys and after a great win over Terra Nova as well.
The game was a very tightly contested game through the 1st half with the Cougars taking a 1 point lead into the locker room at halftime up 23-22. But, the Cougars regrouped at halftime and came out in the 3rd quarter scoring 21 points to the the Tigers 8 and taking control of the game. The Cougars continued the 2nd half surge into the 4th quarter and closed out the scoring with a 59-41 win to finish the first half of PAL-North league play with an unblemished 6-0 record and sole possession of 1st place. Austin Hilton led all scorers with 29 points and hauled down 8 rebounds as well in a dominating bright lights performance. Sophomore Andrew Saffold, who played his most minutes this season, responded with his best performance of the season scoring 9 points off the bench, dishing out 5 assists and picking up 4 steals.
The Cougars return to action this Tuesday @ home vs. Jefferson @ 7p.
