Cougars move to 10-0 on the season

The Cougars won their 10th game of the season with a 68-44 win over Harker Academy of San Jose, last year's CCS Div. 4 championship runner-up. The Cougars came out quickly tonight leading 20-8 after the first quarter. But, Harker returned serve in the 2nd quarter netting 15 points while holding the Cougars to just 10, to cut the lead to 7 heading into the locker room at halftime. The Cougars turned up the defense in the 3rd quarter and then broke the game open with a 16-0 run to finish the quarter up 52-33. The Cougars defense caused a number of Harker turnovers which led to Cougar fast breaks and easy baskets. The Cougars looked excellent in transition especially with some highlight passes. none better than Austin Hilton's touch pass to Caelin Batstone flying up the court for a finishing score. Another highlight was Tommy Nuno's baseball bounce pass to a streaking Austin Hilton to finish the break.

Austin had a career night scoring 31 points on 14 for 18 shooting and knocking down 3 of 4 free throws. It was his second consecutive double/double. He also hauled down 14 rebounds. Quite a night for the Junior, who appears to b getting better every time out.

Tommy Nuno had a very good night and also registered a double/double, scoring 12 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.

Next game is tomorrow night against the Menlo-Atherton Bears, which should be a real tough test. One of my closest friends, Mike Molieri, coaches the Bears and he always likens this game to the dark side (HMB as the evil Empire, me as Darth Vadar) vs. the Force and the good side (he as Yoda and they as the great Jedi). Should be very entertaining and his team will play this game as if its the biggest game of the year.

May the Force be with us tomorrow night!
