First round game of the 38th Annual Burlingame Lions' Club Tournament

The Cougars notched their 4th win of the young season and remain undefeated with a 57-46 victory over Irvington of Fremont. Tommy Nuno led all scores with 16 points and Case DuFrane knocked down 7 shots to contribute 14 points. The Cougars had a 20 point lead in the early part of the 4th quarter before Irvington hit a couple of threes to close the gap down the stretch. Irvington hit 9  3 pointers for the game as they spread the Cougars out on defense.

Caelin Batstone came off the bench to score 10 points while hustling all over the court and played his best game to date of the season.

The JV team (in the JV portion of the tourney) also defeated Irvington in the auxiliary gym of Burlingame HS and will take on Aragon HS Wednesday @ 615p. The young Cougars improved to 2-3 for the season.

The Varsity Cougars play Menlo-Atherton coached by my former assistant and dear friend Mike Molieri, Wednesday @ 630p. The MA Bears defeated arch-rival Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton in a terrific first round game 51-49 on a great drive and left-handed finish by Erik Norton. It was a upset for the Bears as Sacred Heart Prep came in to the game ranked #12 in the SF Chronicle pre-season poll.

The Bears will provide the toughest test yet this season for the Cougars as they play incredibly hard and have a tremendous playbook under Coach Molieri's tutelage.
